It's Santa time!!!

I so can't wait till next week.  It really means a world to me.  Starting Monday, I will be a free woman!  No more school till Jan 22.  Oh. My. God.  I just have to go to work.  Still shitty, but at least there will be no school, and no teaching.  I have decided to give my brain a break, and I will not think at all (except during work hours) till school starts.  I am not going on vacation, but my brain will.  I will be the dumbest person ever for a month!  Woot!!!  Haha.

Christmas is here!!!  I love Christmas.  Too bad I don't get to do anything this year.  Family is too far away, and I have to wait 3 more months before my vacation days start kicking in.  But the aroma of Christmas is still nice.  At least I think it is still nice, given that I haven't gone out since Thanksgiving when my parents came to visit.

Santa is such a nice, plumpy man.  I was watching Fox News, which always bring you the worst of the world, and saw that some Santa got groped!  Haha.  There was this clip of him looking really sad in the mall as the police investigated.  Then there was this other Santa (Seriously, how many Santa's are there?  I wonder if kids ever think about why Santa is EVERYWHERE...) who got hit in the eye by some object thrown at him, and got a concussion.  Sad!  Dude, leave him alone.  He's SANTA!!!

Anyhoo, just some random rambling.  I should get back to my paper now.  Merry Christmas to those who find this greeting relevant!  (Now that this got me thinking about Hannukah...  My Jewish boss wants me to work on this project for her during the holidays, and wants me to present at the end of next week.  COME ON, GIVE ME A BREAK!  You had your dose of Hannukah, why can't I have a little of Santa!??  I am not even claiming my Chinese New Year...  Goodness!...  In that case, maybe I should hire a crew to do some Lion Dance on Chinese New Year at work!  Haha, way to represent!)

On teaching

PhD life started.

Attended a training session last week for this TA-ship for the 2nd biggest class in the entire Columbia.  385 students.  Ha, that's nothing compared to my average-sized 500 student Gchem class from undergrad.  With that stated, we trainees were given this research article on effective teaching methods.  Didn't know there was so much research on this topic.  Well, with ignorance aside, I guess that's why they have this entire branch for the study of education out there.  Anyhow, thought the following excerpt was amusing:

"Anecdotal evidence on styles was provided by postgraduates who were asked to identify the different styles of lecturing that they had experienced.  The most common styles were The Overfill who crammed, Radio Three who used long, eloquent sentences that were difficult to note, The Random Walk who wandered aimlessly through the literature, The Systems Person who provided a systematic, if somewhat dull presentation, The Systems Person plus who used every aid available to put across the information.  Preference was for the Systems Man for good notes.  Some Random Walkers were thought amusing (Brown, 1979)."

Funny titles...

Bless the inventor(s)!

I just took the online tutorial for ReferenceManager, and after having messed with it for a while, I finally figured out how to use it.

OH.

MY.

GOD.

This thing is glorious!  Referencing has never been this fun!
